Microbiological Safety of Food in Vietnam: Detection of Enteric Bacteria in Raw Food and Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance

2010 y.
Publisher: —
Description: Consumption of pathogen contaminated food may pose a severe risk as in some cases a low infective dose is sufficient to cause illness. In addition, food contamination with antibiotic resistant bacteria could be a major threat to public health as the antibiotic resistance determinants can be transferred to other pathogenic bacteria. Unfortunately, raw food hygiene and antimicrobial resistance epidemiology is at its infancy in Vietnam. This book addresses some of these issues and provides a baseline profile of antimicrobial resistance and virulence of bacteria isolated from foods commonly sold in Vietnam. The book firstly provides detailed information on the presence of enteric bacteria in raw food samples collected from Vietnam and novel information on phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of their antibiotic resistance. Additionally, the pathogenic nature of these isolates is also demonstrated. This book will be of great value for researchers, microbiologists, … [detailed...]

Microchip: An Idea, Its Genesis, and the Revolution It Created

— y.
Publisher: —
Description: The riveting story of the origins of our digital age and the crusaders and inventors who made it all possible. Computer chips are an almost invisible part of our modern lives, and yet they make much of what`s `modern` in them possible. Even the tech-averse and the tech-opposed among us depend on their hidden capabilities. From today`s automobiles, medical scanners, and DVD players to annoying musical greeting cards, space travel, and movies like The Lord of the Rings, microelectronics are everywhere-and taken for granted. But how did this revolutionary technology emerge? Microchip tells that story by exploring the personalities behind the technology. From the two pioneering men who invented the integrated circuit, Nobel Prize winner Jack Kilbyand Intel founder Robert Noyce, to luminaries like Gordon Moore and An Wang who put the chip to work, Jeffrey Zygmont shows how the history of the microchip is also the story of a handful of visionaries confronting problems and facing… [detailed...]

Description: The interaction between computers and mathematics is becoming more and more important at all levels as computers become more sophisticated. This book shows how simple programs can be used to do significant mathematics. The purpose of this book is to give those with some mathematical background a wealth of material with which to appreciate both the power of the microcomputer and its relevance to the study of mathematics. The authors cover topics such as number theory, approximate solutions, differential equations and iterative processes, with each chapter self contained. Many exercises and projects are included giving ready-made material for demonstrating mathematical ideas. Only fundamental knowledge of mathematics is assumed and programming is restricted to `basic BASIC` which will be understood by any microcomputer. The book may be used as a textbook for algorithmic mathematics at several levels, since all the topics covered appear in any undergraduate mathematics course. [detailed...]

Microcontroller Based Applied Digital Control

2006 y.
Publisher: —
Description: Combines the theory and the practice of applied digital control This book presents the theory and application of microcontroller based automatic control systems. Microcontrollers are single-chip computers which can be used to control real-time systems. Low-cost, single chip and easy to program, they have traditionally been programmed using the assembly language of the target processor. Recent developments in this field mean that it is now possible to program these devices using high-level languages such as BASIC, PASCAL, or C. As a result, very complex control algorithms can be developed and implemented on the microcontrollers. Presenting a detailed treatment of how microcontrollers can be programmed and used in digital control applications, this book: * Introduces the basic principles of the theory of digital control systems. * Provides several working examples of real working mechanical, electrical and fluid systems. * Covers the… [detailed...]

Microeconomic Analysis

1992 y.

Description: Microeconomic Analysis has been a fixture of graduate programs in economics for fifteen years. It has held this position because it has the authority, the clarity, and the breadth necessary for a classic text. This new Third Edition continues to supply the building blocks of microeconomic analysis: a thorough treatment of optimization and equilibrium methods, coupled with numerous examples of their application. The Third Edition expands on the earlier editions in two ways. First, the existing coverage has been rewritten and rearranged. Second, new chapters have been added on game theory, oligopoly, asset markets, and information economics. The rearrangement follows the model of Hal Varian`s Intermediate Microeconomics: a number of short chapters, each devoted to a single topic. In fact, the topical division is as close as possible to that of the undergraduate text. This makes it easy to review undergraduate material before moving on to graduate material.
