Consumer Responses To Service Failure Events In Strategic Airline Alliances: A Justice Theory Perspective

2008 y.
Publisher: —
Description: In the past decade service firms have committed significant resources to operational aspects of collaborative business arrangements such as strategic alliances. Yet, there is little research on consumer responses to service failures in settings that involve multiple organizations in the service provision. The current investigation addresses this critical issue in the strategic airline alliance context. Analyzing in-depth interviews with business travelers in Hong Kong, and results of experiments with students in the United States and frequent business travelers from the Asia-Pacific region, it is suggested that consumer responses differ significantly, depending on which alliance entity is evaluated (home carrier, partner airline, alliance). Identification of consumers with a particular airline, the mood they are in prior the service encounter, and which alliance airline caused the service failure emerged as important factors influencing consumer responses. These findings provide… [detailed...]

Consumer Safety Regulation: Putting a Price on Life and Limb

— y.
Publisher: —
Description: Advocates of consumer safety regulation, an active and controversial area of public policy in the United States, contend that markets do not adequately protect the interests of vulnerable consumers, market traditionalists respond that public agencies increasingly make risk/safety decisions that individual citizens ought to be making for themselves. This book, written by an economist, critically assesses the rationales for, and the effects of, our major consumer safety programs. Addressed to a general audience, and incorporating relevant literature on cognitive psychology as well as economics, the author argues that although legitimate reasons for public protection of consumers exist in some markets, the particular programs we adopt often produce results that fall far short of what their advocates desire, and at least occasionally yield perverse outcomes. Consumer Society in American History: A Reader

— y.
Publisher: —
Description: Consumption has often been called America`s true national pastime. From the earliest European explorers trading with Native Americans to today`s Internet shoppers, consumerism has driven American society. Until recent years, however, consumerism has received little serious attention from historians and other scholars. This welcome volume offers the most comprehensive and incisive exploration of American consumer history to date. The first book on this topic to span the four centuries from the colonial era to the present, and the first to propose theoretical frameworks, the volume brings consumer society to the center of American history. Indeed, its authors demonstrate the many ways their research enhances knowledge of a broad range of historical topics, such as politics, labor ideology, immigrant life, and race, gender, and class relations. By including types of consumer studies which are seldom linked, this volume offers both a basis for historical synthesis and a springboard… [detailed...]
